filling free time

so, most of my evenings are free most of the time. on these free evenings i'm either watching tv or a movie, or reading a book. like with 99% of things in life, if you do them long enough they get old. what can i do to bring new life to my evenings? i have two possibilities that i will expound on, but i would also be grateful to hear from you, my friends, your suggestions.
my possibility #1 is to work out (this would mean either getting a gym membership or using my apartment complex's gym, if they have one). before i decided to hurt myself while riding a motorcycle, i used to work out 3-4 times a week - and i loved it. so, riding a stationary bike and possibly lifting weights would be a good way to waste away part of multiple evenings, and a great thing for my body. and i know you all want me to have a good looking body; you don't have to say it, i know.
my possibility #2 is to take an evening class at city college. i'm thinking some type of history class, or art history/appreciation, or something else. it would be a credit/no credit type class that would be fun to take by myself, but more fun to take with a friend or two.
other suggestions/ideas/possibilities?

i like your ideas. they're not bad. here are some i can come up:

1. hang out at coffee shops. but you don't like coffee. go to teazers instead and buy a $20 cup of tea.
2. write stories.
3. volunteer @ a soup kitchen type place on a regular schedule.
4. move into the neighborhood so you can see other people on a more regular basis for shorter intervals.

also, if you move to the hood you can buy a regular, non-stationary bike and ride it to work. thus exercising. and it takes longer than driving, so you're using some free time.

ed's #3 is good, i would do that LONG before i started exercizing. and i dont really know where you live now, but you definately could move closer to your peeps (although it wouldnt really effect (or is it affect?) my hanging out with you, so therefore dont really care that much.

and classes are always nice, there are times i really miss fresno state (even though i know thats not where youd be taking classes) and wish i was learning something.

here are some others i've thought of:
1. get married. then you're not alone.
2. adopt/get foster child
3. get a puppy.

i hear that puppies attract women, so that might also help the alone.

Naw man, get a cat. People love my cats. They just hate that I forget how to use a vacuum all the time.

And I'll take a class at city with you.

my dad might take a class with you, but youd have to take pottery or something.

george and i will be the kings of the pottery class. but there will be no 'ghost' reenactments.

Ok I am a little late but I have to stand up for the working out idea that everyone else seems to be shooting down. Not only does exercise make you physically healthier but like you said it offers great mental benefits as well. If I am ever depressed or in a bad mood thats what snaps me out of it, plus you can check out the hot women at the gym while you are bulking up:)
I might be interested in taking a class too, I have always wanted to take a photo class but I would be interested in hearing other ideas if you are serious. And if you take a photo or any art class, you can practice your craft in the evening and that would take up some of that time as well.

wait a minute, who's shooting down working out? i suggested getting a real bike rather than just a stationary so that he could work out and get to work.

playing up other things doesn't mean we're shooting down exercise.

and i agree that exercise releases endorphins, which help increase energy and fight against depression.

so i'm going to get a bike to ride to work, the gym, and a night class. i'm going to buy a puppy, vacuum a cat, marry a hot girl at the gym and move to the tower. take a photo/art/pottery class with george, kasey, adam, and others. and never be depressed, sad, lonely or bored again. oh, and up my endorphins, testosterone, estrogen, vitamin b, and ldl cholesterol. i'm on it.

don't forget the hgh. not only will you bash homers (not homos), but i hear it can help with hair growth. so, i also advise dreadlocks.

I tried commenting twice and I keep being unsuccessful. I for moving to Tower and getting a pet. Being close to friends and having a pet, who is alway happy to see you and can't get enough of you, makes life fun.

hoping this one finally goes through.

"I for moving to Tower and getting a pet."

what, did cavewoman becky chime in on the first half of that sentence? shouldn't it be, "i for moving to tower and getting pet. rrrrrr."

m.wise said...

I've been unsuccessful leaving a comment too. So here goes again. When we lived on Simpson Avenue, I would ride my bike to City College for ceramics class. I vote for a bicycle and classes, not sure about the hgh...
