spiral

currently: downward

in other news. i've had the cartoon television series 'Voltron' sitting on my shelf for a year or two now. last night i decided to shake the dust off of it and take a stroll down memory lane. I remember the show, and i remember the toys, i just didn't remember how much i watched it. but when it started i was like "oh yeah, i remember these guys." out of the four episodes i watched last night, i don't remember any of them. so maybe i started watching it later in the series. it is fun though. and editing wise, they left in the cuts where the show leaves and comes back from commercial...which i think is very funny. it says something like "we'll be back with more action after this short commercial break" and then "and now back to more Voltron". it's something like that; i know i didn't capture it word for word.

Childhood nostalgia is great - I watched "Willow" the other day...it was more fun when I was a kid because I doubt I was left pondering the ethical implication of using little people as their own race.

My favourite old school cartoon was GI Joe, at least as far as the public service announcement aspect goes. At the end of every episode they had the GIs and some kids, usually in a playground and the kid would go to pick up a syringe or something and the GIs would say, "Don't pick up that syringe Timmy, they could really hurt you. (turning in the direction of the audience) Kids, if you find any sharp objects, like needles or broken glass, leave the area immediately and tell an adult you can trust." Timmy then thanks them (not unlike you Mike Wise, thanking the police officer for rerouting you) for telling him and the GIs responde with, "so now you know...AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE." That always kills me.

and yes, respond now has an "e" on the end. If you are from Canada. And extremely tired.

don't forget that after the "and knowing is half the battle" the gi joe theme cued up.

something about the word spiral, i realize i almost always think of it in a downward concept. i know that something can spiral upward, but whenever i hear spiral i automatically think downward.

what about funneling? can you funnel something upward?
